WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT PUT DOWN YOUR GARBAGE DISPOSAL

DIY Troubleshooting:

- Check for tripped breakers

- Make sure the unit is plugged in

- Press the "reset" button

- Fibrous Vegetables: Eggshells, banana peels, celery, carrots, corn husks, and potato peels. These foods can wrap around the blades and cause clogging. â€‹

- Pasta & Rice: These are expandable foods and can cause your garbage disposal and pipes to become clogged when they get stuck.

- Coffee Grounds: They accumulate inside the pipes and create a sediment and sludgy mess within the pipes, causing a big backup in the garbage disposal.

- Fruit Pits, Glass: These are all not safe as they can propel back out and could cause bodily damage to you. Also, it will dull the blades making them not do their job properly.

- Bones: They will usually not be broken down and just spin around causing damage to the blades. If they do happen to break up and go down they most likely won't make it through the plumbing.

- Chemicals: Most chemicals, such as bleach and drain cleaner can cause direct damage to plumbing which requires more than just unclogging but replacing pipes.

- Grease or Other Fats: These will cause the garbage disposal and pipes to fill up with a film, and over time cause major problems. If you must send it down the drain always grind with cold water to reduce clogs.
